> Home > Take Action STOP KIDDS HILL - CRABTREE VILLAGE
The Raleigh City Council voted on Tuesday, 11/21 to level Kidds Hill (the Hill behind the Crabtree Mall across from McDonalds on Blue Ridge). The Capital Group opposed the project because of the leveling of Kidds Hill and the tree removal clearly contradict the Crabtree Valley Small Area Plan and the Citys own Urban Design Guidelines. The project does not strike the right balance between good development and protecting environmentally sensitive areas. The Capital Group is also apprehension about high-density, mixed use development in an area where the retail cap has been exceeded, few good transit options exist, intersections are operating at grade F, and the area is subject to severe flooding. In justifying the "yes" vote, Councilor Tommy Craven explained that the replanted trees would be the same size as the mature trees are now in 50 years anyway.
