ACTION ALERT!! |
|
Some additional information from our April speaker, Jackie Fienberg from the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance... the Redrock Wilderness Act will soon go to committee where it will be discussed. Right now is a GREAT time to send a letter to your congressman and ask him to support Utah Wilderness. Especially Mel Watt (D-12) or Brad Miller (D-13). Brad Miller is already a co-signer of the bill, so please just thank him.
The easiest way to contact your congressman is by email. You can do that by going to the website at: https://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml. When you put in your zip code the site will allow you to send a letter to your congressman only, so your congressman will know it’s from one of his constituents.
Don’t know your Zip Code extension? Go to: http://www.usps.com/ and type in your address. |

May Program: Plug-in hybrid vehicle technology |
 |
| |
How can emerging technologies in the automobile industry address the rising cost of petroleum? Please join us on Tuesday, May 13 to hear James Poch, Executive Director of the non-profit Plug-in Hybrid Coalition, will explain how the electrification of the automobile sector will benefit our nation’s economy, environment, and national security. Mr. Poch will have a plug-in hybrid prototype on hand.
Plug-In Hybrids combine today’s hybrid technology with larger batteries and the ability to charge from a standard electrical outlet. The result is a vehicle that can achieve up to 100 miles per gallon for local commutes while retaining a gasoline-electric engine for acceleration and range. Information on plug-in hybrids and the coalition may be found at www.plugincarolina.org.
On Tuesday, May 13, we will have a pre-PPG Group Meeting Dinner. Everyone is welcome to gather at Phoenix Asia, 1641 New Garden Road, at 5:45 to enjoy dinner before the meeting. Please RSVP by Monday, May 12 to Dick Mearns at Dick_mearns@bellsouth.net. We hope you can join us!
Thunder Horse Nursery will donate ten Niagara grape vines to the PPG Sierra Club. The price is $8.00 each and they will be available at the May meeting. Money from the sale of these grape vines goes to the PPG Sierra Club. For additional information call Thunder Horse Nursery at 668-2689.
