Linville Wild Areas Cluster,
South Portion
updated 1/6/02

View of South Portion of the Linville Cluster of potential Wilderness Areas, Linville Gorge Wilderness itself and Dobson Knob.  In the North Portion are Wilson Creek, Lost Cove and Harper Creek Wilderness Study Areas, Sugar Knob, and Steels Creek.  Taken all together, it is a large and significant area of wild land.

Orange lines are areas proposed for protection by The Wilderness Society's "North Carolina Mountain Treasures" in July 1992.

The green areas indicate "Semi Primitive Non-motorized" Areas, or "SPNM's", a Forest Service designation indicating that the green area is beyond a certain minimum distance from roads that could be used for logging.

Tan is other Forest Service land.  Brown is privately-owned land.  Major trails are shown as dashed lines.
