Anti-Environment:
Exempt Builders' Inventory

Our Position: oppose
Bill Number: S508
Sponsor: Sen. Dalton
Legislative Session: 2006

This bill was proposed on behalf of the Homebuilders and it would exempt them from paying local property taxes on new homes until they are sold , for up to 5 years.  Their logic is to treat home developments as inventory, but the reality of the situation would mean more urban sprawl and millions of dollars less for local governments and schools.  A committee substitute was adopted Aug. 10, 2005 (for discussion purposes only) that would narrow the scope of the bill.  We will continue to watch this bill as we go into the short session.

Status
