Protecting our natural resources

North Carolina has a lot going for it – biologically unique temperate forests, coastal wetlands and Cypress swamps, our ‘Foothills’, the second largest estuarine system in the world and our barrier islands. The North Carolina Chapter remains an advocate for sound and responsible management of our state’s treasures. Protecting nature protects people.

Strengthening and restoring North Carolina’s natural defense systems such as wetlands, forests and barrier islands will reduce the impact of climate change.

The Sierra Club will work to:

  • Encourage the protection of our air and water resources
  • Oppose offshore drilling for its destructive impact on our internationally important fisheries and hatcheries on the coast
  • Support the state’s longstanding ban of hardened structures—seawalls, jetties and groins of any kind—from our coast.
